Radio and Inspiration
Hopefully my title of this post isn't deceiving. I won't really be talking about the radio, but instead a film..... Anyway, I watched two movies in one night! The classic Robin Hood and then Radio, the movie. I loved both of them. But I was thinking particularly about Radio and how inspiring it is! Just like Remember the Titans, or more recently the Blind Side and McFarland. Movies like these in some ways restore the doubts I have about the influence of media. Often I feel that media can be so negative and have such a bad impact on people because it is so flooded with drugs, violence, sex, profanity, and so much more. However, as I was watching Radio, I remembered that media is good! I mean, yeah, it is bad too. But it is good! I felt inspired and uplifted after watching this movie and I was so happy. I loved the portrayal of the characters and the growth they all went through. It shows how much people can change under real life circumstances, rather than other movies. I think it is a healthier depiction of life, especially since a lot of them are based on true stories. I think that media can inspire and that we can use media to inspire others to be good and to change. The Church is a great example of using media to inspire. Mormon Messages, Bible Videos, church magazines, songs created for the youth, etc.... I think that as we focus on the good, and send messages that are truly good, uplift and inspire people to be better, then there could be a lot more people who are happy in this world.

I love this post because it reminds me of a lesson I had in church a few months ago on the appropriate use of media. To start the lesson, we talked about many wonderful inventions that have come about over the past few decades and how inspired they were. We talked about how God helps inspire His children to create amazing things, and how all of the inventions we spoke about helped progress the spreading of the gospel. It was a very inspiring lesson to me to see that technology (and many other inventions) were brought about for the purpose of good, and then Satan tends to use the same medium for working evil. It just adds one more format in which we use our agency.
