An Evening at Downton
This week I was particularly focused on the lovely world of Downton Abbey. I was thinking mostly about the contrast of media in their day versus media in 2016. They have newspapers, music, art, books, and all of those fun ways to experience media, but it is so different from the media we have now. Our lives are encompassed by what we see and hear on screens, billboards, through headphones, and on the radio. It is so much more prevalent! Their lives seem to have a bit more simplicity regarding those ideas. I often am in awe when I think about the great changes that media has gone through in the last hundred years. That always leads me to wonder what the effects of media will be in the future and how it will shape our lives in the next fifty years or so. We'll just have to see what happens :)

Love that point. :) what would our world be like if everyone did not get interrupted by media or if our news traveled at an unhurried pace... Or at least a less hurried pace...
ReplyDeleteI also think about the future of media sometimes. We have already become such an over-saturated society, that I am not sure where it will go from here. Obviously it will never go back to the way it was 100 years ago. But it is hard to picture an even more media saturated world. It will be interesting to see what happens.
ReplyDeleteThat is also something that I am concerned about. I hope that my kids will spend more time playing outside and exploring their world than they will interacting with screens. That's something that I feel like my generation and the future generations have/will miss out on. Sorry that sounds so dismal--there's so many wonderful things that have come with the media as well. For example, missionary work is so much easier to do because of social media; the church has used the media in an amazing way.
